Maybe I should just open this up to everyone and be like, “A’ight, c’mon and try to convince me to watch something that I’m not already watching. I DARE YOU.”
watch sweet savage family and tear it to pieces so i can kill my desire to check it out
I’m not so great with family dramas, though. I rarely make it past the first ep, if I even try.
I’ve downloaded available Awl eps as they appear on tosarang but haven’t been in the mood to watch them, mostly because I haven’t had time to check out a drama that seems like I’d actually have to pay attention to it and be in the right mood to watch the episodes. Also because I’m ambivalent about Ji Hyun Woo but Trope Lovers cost me so much of my life and sanity that I don’t think I’ve forgiven the drama gods and his face gives me mild PTSD as I remember that drama.
Remember is… a legal drama? Uhhhhh… and it’s going to deal with Alzheimer’s? WTF, no.
Dramaland, do you hate me so much that Alzheimer’s is this year’s cancer? That’d be the third show this year that I know of that’d be dealing with Alzheimer’s. What, cancer wasn’t good enough for you that you have to give everyone dementia? Not cool, Dramaland. Not cool.
I totally get you about Trot Lovers PTSD because although Ji Hyun Woo as the time-travelling Joseon scholar of my heart in Queen In Hyun’s Man was pretty much the single determining factor that got me into the kdrama world, Trot Lovers was so horrible that it made me question, like, everything I’d ever felt about dramas, and I was almost certain I’d never watch Ji Hyun Woo in another show ever because he was ruining Kim Boong Do for me and I wanted my love for Boong Do to remain pure and unspoiled, plus I couldn’t get used to his new straight teeth and his frosted tips or whatever the hell was going on with his hair.
But Awl has me on his side again—I think he’s at his best when he’s called on to be deadpan (reticent, upright)—and although there is a lot of stuff packed into the show, if you’re not into unpacking all of that, it also works surprisingly well as a straightforward, easy, and often fun and very funny, watch. If that sways you at all.
I’ll probably watch it eventually but I’m not as bothered about watching something live unless I’m suuuuuuuper into it and that’s been rare lately. Marathons are often best because then it’s easier to get over the boring bits that would normally have me bail during live-watch because I have no stick-with-it-ness.
