Lim Jeong Hee – “Hope” (Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho OST)

This has nothing to do with The Good Wife other than it popping up in my news search since Yoo Ji Tae is concurrently shooting for his upcoming film, Split (about bowling, hence the bowling alley location) but I needed to share it anyway. Lookit his cute face at being surprised on-set for his birthday last month.

The first stills for tvN’s The Good Wife have been released!

I’m already feeling mildly conflicted because I never really cared for Peter Florrick’s character (not that he exactly had a lovable character any way), and yet here I am all googly-eyes over Yoo Ji Tae (and his facial hair). Yoon Kye Sang is purty, too, but of course the star that matters the most is the goddess herself Jeon Do Yeon.

Producers claim that the drama will be 80% filmed by the time the first episode airs on July 8th, which can only mean there will be more stills of beautiful people to keep whetting my appetite until the premiere. Or so I can hope.

(Note: I’m only writing what I’ve understand from the post.)

#do you mean to tell me there is actual footage of the supreme mud wrestling out there in this world?

Yes and yes.

Bonus: shirtless YSY amazed that the cameras film everything. Welcome to 1N2D, kid.

These people also wrote Giant (and Empress Ki), right? I’d think they’d know how to pace a 50-ep drama…presumably…

You’d think, especially since Empress Ki was gripping up until the very end, and while I still haven’t moved further than half-way through Giant (60 eps, though!), I thought the pacing was well-done from what I did see.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact it’s a different director than they’ve used before, because I was thinking we’d get something more like Giant based on what I knew of it before the premiere. But instead it’s more like History of a Salaryman/Incarnation of Money lite. I think it’s at its best when it comes to the comedy and spy stuff, but it seems to be a little bogged down and confused by all the daddy issues/business politics.

As a die-hard fan of both Lee El and Park Ki Woong, and who greatly enjoys the chemistry between Kang Ji Hwan and Sung Yuri (who are also faves), I shouldn’t be complaining, but I don’t know why Monster is 50 episodes when it could easily and reasonably be a 20-episode show. I just don’t know how they’re gonna keep dragging out the story that long.

We’re already at ep 12 and I’m thinking people can’t be in the dark about people’s true identities and motivations for too much longer. 50-episode shows do allow for deeper character development, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen here. It also still seems to be mildly confused about what kind of show it should be.

This writer is known for dramas that are hard to classify, but for good reason, typically (hello, History of a Salaryman and Incarnation of Money). Here, it doesn’t feel as cohesive or balanced in terms of the melo/comedy/revenge/thriller genres.

It still keeps my interest, which is all that matters in the end. I’m just already worried it might start to flag soon and we’re not even halfway through yet.
