I was trying to find evidence of Kim Eun Hee’s original 2015 webtoon (which goes by “The Kingdom of God”) but it seems YLAB has purposefully pulled it to make it available later after some “digital remastering” (which has nothing to do with the Netflix airdate, I’m sure /sarcasm).

However, here are a couple of images that apparently were made available for press releases:

Netflix is producing a zombie show set in Medieval Korea

The show comes from director Kim Seong-hun, and it will be about a
prince going on a quest to “investigate a mysterious outbreak that leads
him to a brutal truth that threatens the kingdom.”

Kingdom will premiere on Netflix around the world in 2018.

I kind of bristle at the thought of trying to paint Korean history with a Western lens since Korea shouldn’t need to be shoe-horned into Euro-centric definitions of history, but I suppose if one must make a comparison, the Joseon era is perhaps most like the High Middle Ages in Europe. I also suppose I can’t fault the wording in the article, since people unfamiliar with Korea wouldn’t know what “Joseon” means but could perhaps easily grok that “Medieval” means “historical” – I hope they’re not expecting knights in shining armor, though.

Anyway, the most important thing to note (which the article ignores, alas, because apparently the AV Club cares little about Dramaland) is that Kingdom (both the webtoon and the drama script) is written by my beloved Kim Eun Hee. Most will know her work from from Signal, although I’ve been been a devotee ever since Harvest Villa – so you know at least the script will be good because even the worst drama she’s done has been tolerably decent.

Plus, if it goes straight to Netflix, that means she can go as dark and twisted as she would like without fear of repercussions (and if you’ve seen her dramas, you know she can go there).

Decisions!

I have a week off of recapping so that means I have free time to watch something I want to watch!

Right now I’m trying to decide between (a) finishing The Best Hit (which MDL tells me I left off exactly halfway through) or (b) watching the entirety of Circle. I think I only have time to binge one or the other this week, so I have to make a choice.

Wahhhhhh, it’s hard because I adore The Best Hit but also I’ve been dying to see Circle since it first premiered. How am I gonna choose???

It has been 49 days since Infinite’s contract officially ended and there’s been no peep from Woollim in weeks after the rote “still positively discussing” a contract renewal.

But today Hobaby updated his IG for the first time since May to post lyrics from Lee Sora’s “Just Like The First Time” and now I’m all emotional because there’s been a rumor all but one member had resigned, and Hobaby took the brunt of the hate since most assumed it was him. So for him to post this is essentially saying “I know this a tough time right now for our fans and we can’t talk about what’s going on with the contracts or what will happen, but I still love Inspirits.”
