Work has instituted an “employee fun board” to improve morale, they write down notices and also “fun trivia” where we can win snacks if we guess the answer correctly.

I am a misanthropic soul whose morale can only be improved with a pay raise, so I’ve ignored the “fun board” because, well, I don’t care (and I’m not in kindergarten).

But as I was walking past the “fun board” with another coworker, who proudly told me he guessed one of the questions correctly, I glanced at it, saw something about Tudor and foot warmer, and without thinking, answered “King Charles Spaniel.”

My historical dates were off (Charles came after the Tudor period) but my memory of historical portraits served me well, because I was correct and astonished my coworker who thought I’d cheated and looked it up earlier.

Who says a humanities degree is pointless? It’s at least worth a free snack!
