if you don’t mind me asking, where do you download dramas? I’m going on a long flight and want to prepare by downloading tunnel/others with eng subs, and feel like you download dramas

I do indeed download dramas, but I use a torrent so it’s not a straight download. You’ll need a bittorrent client to use the sites I mention.

Avistaz is probably the most reliable and easiest to use if you have an account there, although they do have strict leeching rules (but I think completed shows are usually “free” and don’t count against you). English is the website default so it’s easy to find things there. They’ll also include a download link for any subs available for that show.

A popular Korean torrent is torrentkim – if you google “torrentkim” you’ll find the most current one (I think it’s up to number 10) which is reliable but hit-or-miss if you’ll end up downloading an episode with the annoying sex ad on it (SO annoying, even if it’s only text that shows up a couple of times, and is why I’ll head to avistaz if I need to make sure a download is free from the ad for screenshot purposes). It’s all in Korean so you’ll need to brush up on your hangul, or if nothing else copy/paste the hangul drama name into the search.

There are other Korean torrent sites I’ll use if need be but torrentkim is the biggest so it generally has more seeders, which makes things faster/easier to download. Torrent sites can randomly disappear/change for obvious reasons, so it’s tough to suggest specific ones.

If you’re looking for subs, subscene will have whatever you’re looking for if it’s available. Obviously these are softsubs that you’ll need to sync to the show you’ve downloaded.

Thank you for you answer about handsome oppa. I didn’t mean that Viki was wrong in doing a fun interview. I like fun too (and indeed the idea of a pet detective is too cute for words) but i didn’t read the “serious” interviews he gave, so it felt like nobody cares about his acting to me. But i was wrong: i can see that with the links and translations you provided. I have a lot to enjoy now. Thank you again for sharing! Have a good day.

Yeah, Handsome Oppa, while liked by many, doesn’t exactly have a powerhouse English-speaking international fandom, so a lot of his articles/interviews/etc go untranslated.

But rest assured he did get a lot of press thanks to Voice.

Handsome oppa interview with Viki was fun but also frustrating: the questions weren’t really related to his acting. I wanted to know how he approached Mo Tae Gu, how he related to him, what’s his view on the past of this character, on his relationship with his father, what does he think of the attraction he had for Kwang Joo? Maybe it has been asked in other korean interviews, which haven’t been translated, but it feels like he’s still considered as a sexy man rather than an rising actor

Mmmm, he’s had lots of other interviews (all in Korean, obviously) but this is a translated one that touches on how he felt about the character and the drama.

Here are some other interviews that are in Korean but that I thought were good and discussed his thoughts on the character (and other things), if anyone wants to try and muddle through them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Some brief points, based on your questions above:

  • He was given a lot of freedom to interpret the character and drew inspiration from Christian Bale’s character in American Psycho.
  • He was not particularly sympathetic with his character, since Tae-gu was a murderous psychopath, but did want to approach the character in a way that would make him seem charismatic and belonging to the upper-class.
  • He wanted to make sure Tae-gu’s personal philosophy was clear so it didn’t just seem like another random lunatic (referencing the Joker from The Dark Knight as an example).
  • He was satisfied with the ending and scoffs at the idea of returning for another season because Tae-gu is dead (yes, according to him and the production staff, the ending was literal and not a hallucination), but thinks Voice could have another season with a new villain.
  • While I don’t recall any specific mention of his thoughts on Tae-gu’s childhood or father (except he was grateful to have scenes with Lee Do Kyung, because so often his scenes were shot where he was alone), there was one interview where he said he warned his actual parents not to watch the drama so they wouldn’t be disturbed by seeing their son brutally kill people.
  • Any chemistry between Tae-gu and Kwon-joo during that last rooftop scene was by accident – he was just focused on portraying the emotion of his character.

The point of that Viki interview wasn’t to be hard-hitting or in-depth (after all, it’s Viki) – it was just for fun. I was most delighted when they asked about his kitty and pup (and one of those interviews mentions somewhere that if he had the ability to hear sounds like on Voice, he’d like to be a pet detective and reunite lost animals with their families).

GO. KYUNG. PYO. Nothing else to say. I think the cast of Chicago Typewriter is amazing as a whole but he is just…ARGH, I can’t even define in words. Is it because of the suits? Likely because of them, but he is simply gorgeous on this and I also like his acting. He is so… I don’t know which words to use, but you understand me, I think. +

+ And his voice? Oh my God. I’ve always liked him even though I unfortunately dropped some dramas that he was in (not because of him, of course) but this is the one. I want to see the best he has to offer in this role, tears, rage, funny moments, EVERYTHING. (Sorry, I’m being too much, I know) Final message to drama gods: let him be with Kim Seul Gi again, please! (in something angsty, can you even imagine?)

ANON FINALLY I have time (and a proper keyboard) to respond!

He’s definitely a scene stealer, at least for me. I’m finding CT easy to zone out when (a) he’s not on screen, or (b) we’re not in the 1930′s. But that does mean ep 6 was fantastic and managed to pull me back in just when I was seriously considering dropping it because the whole ghost bromance is gonna be my favorite thing, I just know it.

I do consider myself a fan of GKP ever since FBND (*cries over my favorite otp to end all otps*), but… I also feel like… I can’t really call myself a fan when I’ve only watched a handful of his stuff. I mean, other than FBND and his SNL skits, plus a handful of episodes of Potato Star (I think I made it to ep 20, which sounds like a lot until you realize there’s 120 episodes total) and half of Jealousy Incarnate (which I still have vague plans to go back to), I haven’t really watched a lot of his work.

Wait, I did see the entirety of the Youth Over Flowers season he did with the other R88 boys, and I also saw the film Man On High Heels where he was great in a role that I’d not seen him play before (I like that he’s skilled in comedy but would totally love more serious stuff, plz!).

Buuuuut… that’s it. None of his other dramas registered much interest.

(I swear one day I’ll actually get around to watching R88 but only when I don’t look at that episode length and decide I have better ways to spend my time – namely I could watch two dramas in the time it would take me to watch that one.)

So for me to be going “he’s so great and such a scene stealer!” just because I’ve watched him in, like, five projects is maybe a little presumptuous but I don’t care. I love him and think he deserves any praise he gets. Yeah, I know the haters are gonna hate, and there’s a lot of netizens who don’t like him because of his SNS scandals, but it seems like he’s taken their criticisms to heart and is working on his image. Give the boy a chance, people!

As for him teaming up with Kim Seul Gi again, well, sure, of course I’d love to see my favorite OTP reunited, but honestly I’m also fine with letting the perfection of Webtoon Editor and Dong Hoon remain untainted. I definitely agree, however, that something dark and angsty would be excellent for him, based solely on how impressed I was by him in Man On High Heels.

By the way, I’m the anon who sent you the message about Go Kyung Pyo being awesome in Chicago Typewriter, I’m saying this before you answer my question so you can believe me, hahaha I have a mydramalist account which I plan to reactivate (blame it on the drama and on him <3), I used to be your friend in there, my username is sailormoonlight! Maybe we can discuss the drama in there, since I have no longer patience with tumblr (I had one more than a year ago, not a huge fan of it, as you can see)

I genuinely have no idea how to do anything on MDL except make lists.

But yeah, sure, re-befriend me on MDL (where, for anyone else curious, I have the oh-so-creative handle of odilettante) and feel free show me how to be social.

Did you drop Radiant Office? It wasn’t on her your weekly watchlist on DB. I was waiting for your opinion to decide if it’s worth a try or not…

First, it’s nice of you to read my weekly thoughts and appreciate the effort that goes into trying to succinctly sum up my thoughts each week (because I swear there is some effort!). Thank you!

As for your question, yes, I am still watching Radiant Office and I am still enjoying it.

Admittedly, I’m a little weary of the constant ways they try to fire Go Ah Sung’s character and then rehire her, but everything else makes me happy so I’m willing to excuse it as a rookie writer’s efforts at creating tension. After all, I’m in love with all the characters (at least, the ones I’m supposed to love – I’m counting down the days until Manager Park will be destroyed), so some plot weakness is forgivable when the characters are so strong.

The reason it wasn’t on the list last week is because I only have so much time to watch dramas, and a lot of that is on the weekends after I’ve submitted my report on what I’m watching. Radiant Office slipped to the bottom of the pile because I wanted to check out Chicago Typewriter, and it’s also hard for me to watch the most current Weds/Thurs shows before I have to submit my thoughts on them. But in the past few days I’ve caught up on the past few weeks and am now current on the most recent episode, fully planning to see this drama through until the end with no regrets.

159480979404/jkdramaniac-whisper-episode-1 You say Whisper, but I say Signal Season 2 hahaha would be amazing

You’re referring to this? I don’t know about Signal season 2, but I am suddenly overcome with a desire for a “buddy cop” show starring Lee Bo Young as the reckless cop who’s happy to go in guns blazing, ready to knock some heads together, and Kim Hye Soo as the cool-headed, by-the-books detective.

How much do you like Go Kyung Pyo? I’m curious (and to me he was shiny in that dance club scene). Also, how good is the entire cast of Chicago Typewriter? (except the guy who screams all the time and almost makes me deaf, since I use headphones to watch) + the script is also great so far. I’m so afraid this will disappoint me. The length is already problematic, I have almost no time to watch stuff and then tvN does that to me… I skipped the first 5 min too!

I love him, but then I blindly latch onto actors who were in roles that I adored and follow them until the bitter end, hoping they’ll finally get the role that will show the world how great they are and that I’ve always known they were since the beginning. I haven’t watched everything he’s done (not even Reply 1988, because omg those episode lengths!), but I’ve liked him in whatever I’ve seen him in.

The script is… okay? I literally fast-forwarded through most of ep 2 so I’m not sure I’m qualified to comment on the script, but I also know this writer isn’t one I particularly like so I wasn’t really expecting greatness in the script, anyway. Her projects are generally saved by the talent of the cast (at least in my estimation). Although, I’m not feeling the chemistry between Yoo Ah In and Im Soo Jung, which is weird because I know they’re good actors and should convince me of anything, but… eh. I think there’s a good concept, though, and I hope it goes as dark as I want it to (c’mon lets go full-on horror/mystery!), but realistically we’ll probably wallow in the modern day where I get bored easily.

Now, if there were more than fifteen minutes of the 1930′s scenes, then maybe I’d like this show a lot more than I do. I’ll still give it a chance next week, but only to see what happens with Go Kyung Pyo since he only appeared for a few minutes at the end. I fully expect it’ll hit my “drop” list, though.

hi! do you have an recs for dramas similar to signal, voice, cruel city, tunnel, pride and prejudice, liar game, etc?

So… dramas in the dark thriller/mystery genre? I’ll list all I can think of, bolding particular favorites in case you want a specific place to start.

Some of these will be darker thrillers and some will be more procedural mysteries, and some will fall somewhere in that spectrum, but they all pretty much fit the format of the shows you’ve mentioned.

If you liked Signal, I recommend looking up Kim Eun Hee’s previous dramas:

  • Harvest Villa
  • Sign
  • Ghost aka Phantom
  • Three Days

(These are all ranked in my order of preference, with the caveat that you’ll probably think they aren’t as good as Signal, but they all have her signature style.)

OCN shows are always a good default for this genre:

  • Vampire Prosecutor (seasons 1 & 2)
  • Bad Guys
  • Missing Noir M
  • Squad 38 aka Task Force 38
  • Reset
  • Special Affairs Team TEN (seasons 1 & 2)
  • Virus
  • God’s Quiz (all seasons)
  • Dr. Frost
  • Vampire Detective

If you like Cruel City (aka Heartless City), then you definitely need to check out My Beautiful Bride by the same writer.

Other random recommendations:

  • Story of a Man aka The Slingshot
  • White Christmas
  • Killer Girl K
  • Nine: Nine Times Travel
  • Two Weeks
  • Gapdong
  • God’s Gift – 14 Days
  • Solomon’s Perjury
  • Pied Piper
  • Hidden Identity
  • Punch
  • Last
  • The Chaser
  • City Hunter
  • I Hear Your Voice
  • The Village: Achiara’s Secret
  • Resurrection (part 1 of the revenge trilogy)
  • The Devil (part 2 of the revenge trilogy)
  • Shark (part 3 of the revenge trilogy)

If anyone else has recommendations, let me know and I’ll add them to the list!
