But why rising actor? He’s been around for at least 10 years: i never watched Coffee Prince but heard a lot about it and if my memory is right it’s from 2007. What i understood from the little tidbits i read about him: he’s not famous because he chose to be picky about his roles and has enough money from his modeling career already to not be forced to work…
“Rising” as in growing in popularity, which I believe is accurate. He definitely did get more attention thanks to his role in Voice (as well as the release of his film Another Way, although to a lesser extent). I think he’s generally been respected for the roles he’s done, but from my experience just due to being his fan for so long, he hasn’t always had the kind of popularity like I’ve seen recently.
That being said, one of the interviews post-Voice asked him what he thinks of all the news articles talking about the “rediscovery of Kim Jae Wook” and he said he’s been hearing that for at least ten years, ever since Coffee Prince, so he’s not exactly putting any stock in the sentiment.
But his sudden burst of popularity does make me hope that he’ll be able to have more of a selection of roles to choose from in the near future, especially ones that he’ll feel is worth his while and won’t ultimately end up disappointing the fans. More importantly, perhaps it’ll mean that we won’t have to wait another three years to see him on our screen again.
