He is my first (and only real?) celebrity crush, and this is just…so not good. I am grimly prepared to never hear from him again. And it’s a shame.
Yeah, it really sucks. Especially since netizens/Korean public vilify anyone who uses illegal drugs or looks like they’re trying to get out of their enlistment. Careers have dwindled to nothing for others who’ve been caught in similar scandals – just one, not even a combo of the two. Then there’s the fact that mental health is still not really appreciated or understood – there’s a sense it’s a personality weakness or moral failing. And basically those are three huge blows that won’t be easy to overcome. If they can be overcome.
But I suppose the most important thing is that he’ll hopefully find a way to take care of himself. I was really relieved during the press conference that the doctors kept emphasizing that he’ll be seeing a psychiatrist once they were confident his condition was stable. At least the doctors care about his mental state even if the netizens think it’s all a joke. Depression and anxiety is no joke, especially when you’re living in a pressurized fish bowl and you’ve got a sensitive nature to boot. Argh, I’m getting angry again just thinking about it.
