Yeah, exactly! I really loved him too (although I felt mildly conflicted about it because he – and especially Go Kyung Pyo – reminded me of my cousin, and it’s awkward thinking you’re attracted to your cousin). Out of all the boys, he’s the best pick, I think. Enrique is too much of a manic pixie dream boy and Jin Rok was too much of a Nice Guy™ (although I was happy to defend him because he wasn’t all that bad) and poor Watanabe just smiled and made delicious food (so he’s probably my second favorite because that’s a sure-fire way to win a girl’s heart).
But Dong Hoon felt so real. Even though he wasn’t the brightest or most charming, he was sincere and knew how to handle social situations better than Jin Rok, that’s for sure. I just really loved that moment when he had to confront Jin Rok and tell him that it’s just not realistic to expect to make a living off a webtoon. I get the feeling he’d been putting up with it because he liked it and enjoys drawing, but he knows that it isn’t going to pay the bills, and a man can only sleep in a nest of clothing for so long. I think I relate to that the most. Yes, art is great and wonderful and it’s so fulfilling to create something meaningful… but a girl has got to eat, y’know?
So that’s why I loved that he got paired up with the ever practical Webtoon Editor (who isn’t above enjoying a good story of romance herself, but knows that’s what sells and what matters is fighting for worker’s rights so she can get some sleep).
So these two practical and poor people who work in the arts find each other and realize that they’ll fight to the death for each other (seriously, don’t take Webtoon Editor’s spot next to Dong Hoon). And they get so excited to discover that they no longer owe money but actually have a few pennies – a debt they’ve paid off together through their combined hard work and patience. This is a couple whose lives are equally intertwined and you just know they’re gonna be a kick-ass awesome pair for the rest of their lives.
Which is why I use this scene as my in-dash roll-over header picture thingy, because to me it sums up true love:
