As a die-hard fan of both Lee El and Park Ki Woong, and who greatly enjoys the chemistry between Kang Ji Hwan and Sung Yuri (who are also faves), I shouldn’t be complaining, but I don’t know why Monster is 50 episodes when it could easily and reasonably be a 20-episode show. I just don’t know how they’re gonna keep dragging out the story that long.

We’re already at ep 12 and I’m thinking people can’t be in the dark about people’s true identities and motivations for too much longer. 50-episode shows do allow for deeper character development, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen here. It also still seems to be mildly confused about what kind of show it should be.

This writer is known for dramas that are hard to classify, but for good reason, typically (hello, History of a Salaryman and Incarnation of Money). Here, it doesn’t feel as cohesive or balanced in terms of the melo/comedy/revenge/thriller genres.

It still keeps my interest, which is all that matters in the end. I’m just already worried it might start to flag soon and we’re not even halfway through yet.
