farashaneedwingsince1998 replied to your photosetGotta wonder what Lee Kyeong Yeong is…

wait he lived what? I googled it and got nothing???

Yeah, there’s not really anything if you’re looking on English sites. Here’s the Korean wikipedia entry about it (with a bunch of links to the original articles if you want to peruse them).

But if you look at his filmography on an English site, you’ll notice that in the 2000′s there’s hardly anything – only a few films, and no TV programs because he was banned by all three broadcasting networks (you’ll also note that the only dramas he’s had major roles in since then have been on the cable channels). That was during the time of his scandal. In 2002, he was first charged and arrested for having sex with a minor. He was sentenced with two years in prison and so many hours of community service, although I believe he didn’t actually go to prison and was just on probation during that time.

He claims that he didn’t know she was a minor, but this was also apparently a “casting couch” situation (he was also a movie director at that time), so it’s not like it makes it any better. There was a civil trial in 2004 when the girl’s family wanted restitution for psychological damages, which they won and he paid them 50 million won. But he still claims that he was innocent, despite his conviction and paying damages.

EDIT: If you’re looking up his filmography on dramawiki/asianwiki, any TV role since 2001 listed as a SBS/MBC/KBS drama is actually confusing him with another actor by the same name who was born in 1958. The Lee Kyeong Yeong that I’m referencing, born in 1960, is still presumably banned from the big 3.

omg i heard about lee kyeong yeong scandal just recently and it’s so bizarre there is like no recognition of the issue (internationally)

Yeah, I’m not even sure of all the details and you can only really find them on Korean sites. His Korean wiki has a link to an entire separate page devoted to it, but his English wiki just lists his filmography.

I don’t think he’s all that well-known internationally and the scandal happened at least a decade ago, when there wasn’t as much by way of international kdrama news (at least for the non-pretty non-young actors and anyone who isn’t an idol).
