Our new education director is going to Korea this year to give a few talks about pop culture and comics (she went last year, too) but she’s clueless about Korean pop culture so now I get to teach the teacher, ha.

I got a hair cut yesterday (which if you know me, is quite the ordeal because I always feel a sense of dread and anxiety whenever I’m trapped in the stylist chair with the black cape draped around me).

Anyway, it was actually not a bad experience, partially because I’ve been wearing my glasses lately since my contacts apparently don’t like super cold, super dry weather, which means I couldn’t see squat. And also because I was apparently happier and chattier than I have ever been with my stylist before – I guess no longer being chronically sleep-deprived will do that to a person.

Right. So, I got my hairs cut, approximately three inches off because I hadn’t had a hair cut since September and apparently (unlike my contacts) split-ends love the cold, dry weather. I keep trying to put it up in my usual bun-knot but the ends aren’t quite long enough to hold it together without a little extra help. I’m gonna have to make sure I have hair ties now.

But the biggest thing is the color. I started coloring my hair a couple of years ago when I realized my blah-brown hair made me depressed and I also found my first-ever grey hair (gasp! I know, I even had to call Mum to be like “when did you get your first grey hair” and she was like “yeah thirty sounds about right”).

So I started coloring my hair a close-enough shade that wouldn’t be too noticeable since I will easily let a year go by before I screw up the courage to go back to the stylist (and if you’re like, “you could totally color it yourself, it’s so easy,” then you clearly don’t know me, and besides, no one wants your unsolicited advice, okay? Like, that’s just a general thing, not just a me thing). I’ve stuck with this shade for the past couple of years because it works for me.

But today, for some reason, my hair looks Super Dark. So dark that I feel like I need to channel my inner goth. It’s apparently the same shade but it just seems Extra Dark. I don’t know if the dye formula was a little off or if I’m just extra pale because it’s winter and freezing and my skin is like, “what even is the sun?”

It doesn’t look bad, really. I’m not complaining. Okay, well I am, but not to the point where I need to go back to the stylist and be like “hey has my hair always been dyed this dark?” (because again do you know what it takes to get me through that door in the first place). But I am hoping it will lighten up after a few washes, which totally defeats the purpose of getting it professionally done, I know.

Anyway the point is whenever I’ve looked in the mirror today I’ve been like “whoa who is that” because hair cuts can totally change your perspective.

I didn’t think anyone could ruin Black Panther for me but

my Dad sent me an email that he and Mum saw it this weekend and was like “Wakanda is the true Libertarian dream! Make Wakanda great again! Keep foreigners out! Only help people who look like you!” and now I just want to repeatedly bang my head against the desk because of all the amazing themes and stories in the film, this is what my father gets out of it.

I thought movies were one of the few safe topics we could discuss without fighting but, sigh, I guess I’ll have to be even more cautious when it comes to picking my battles.

My beloved earbuds died this morning. *cries*

I went to replace them on Amazon and had a mild panic atrack when I realized I could only order from 3rd party sellers, which is never a good sign, since it means this product is discontinued and not being stocked much longer.

If anyone knows of something similar to the Sennheiser CX 300 ii, please let me know! I’m also searching, but I also have a bag full of mud-range and cheap earbuds that I’ve tried over the years in the hopes of finding something that satisfied me as much as CX 300’s, but these have been the most comfortable and reliable for me for about a decade.

I have happily replaced them every couple of years when they no longer work (I am not gentle on earbuds, so this is just a reasonable expectation). But I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that much longer (and I can’t afford to buy alllllllll the 300’s I can find, or that would totally be an option, like I did with the Bob Cousy PF Flyers when I realized they weren’t making any more and these were the only shoes of that style that were comfortable on my weird feet. I still have 2 unopened boxes in my closet).

Anyway, I’m having earbud woes. I love the asymmetrical cord, but I guess I’ll have to suck it up and try a different style of Sennheisers. Sigh.
