I didn’t think anyone could ruin Black Panther for me but

my Dad sent me an email that he and Mum saw it this weekend and was like “Wakanda is the true Libertarian dream! Make Wakanda great again! Keep foreigners out! Only help people who look like you!” and now I just want to repeatedly bang my head against the desk because of all the amazing themes and stories in the film, this is what my father gets out of it.

I thought movies were one of the few safe topics we could discuss without fighting but, sigh, I guess I’ll have to be even more cautious when it comes to picking my battles.

obsessivedilettante:

Ugh. Someone named Josie is apparently looking online to refinance her mortgage or buy a house or something and SHE PUT MY PHONE NUMBER AS A CONTACT. Now either this person hates me and is out for some stupid revenge, or accidentally typed her number, or just mashed the keyboard and my number was the one that came out, but it’s really, really frustrating to get a zillion calls and texts from financial/housing spammers.

I’ve resorted to answering (eight calls in twenty minutes, each from a different place!) by telling them that there is no Josie and to take me off their list.

Yeah, it’s peace out for me with S*DBS. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong because who knows, it’s cable, maybe they’ll actually have a canon queer character and surprise me.

But BS’s dream of MH hitting on GD made me so angry because, wow, that’s what she thinks someone who’s gay would do? It also treats trans people as a literal joke, like, “hahaha he’s gay so he must want to dress like women – and then squeeze the ass of the guy he said had a nice butt” which, btw, is totally sexual harassment because GD, yes even the fantasy GD, was completely unaware of MH’s attraction and did not consent to being groped.

Yet it was played for a laugh.

It’s not like dramas have exactly been stellar when dealing with queer topics, but this is blatantly disrespectful queer baiting. I can only hope that DBS realizes that her understanding of queerness is a “comical” stereotype and that, if her boss is actually gay, she’ll learn how to better understand and appreciate what that means. I’m not holding my breath, though, because MH already made me wary since he so easily gives lip-service to the rumors that he’s gay, but he obviously has a growing attraction to BS. While he could be bi (and the sliver of optimism in me wishes this would be so), I don’t trust dramaland to accurately portray a bi character when they’ve barely been able to successfully portray a gay character.

Not finishing the episode, not continuing with the show.

When I was driving home from work, I was momentarily flummoxed by a bunch of families decked out in costumes, trick-or-treating along my local neighborhood business district. I’ve since googled to figure out what it is and am now extremely annoyed because the family stuff is from 1-4pm and then the adult Halloween party is from 9pm-2am and I’m like “WTF I’ve only just started to get back into a US time zone sleep schedule and now I know there are gonna be drunk and noisy party goers walking past my house late tonight.”
