Quick name me some recent/new girl groups with 6 members. There’s a group performing at the Han river and I have no idea who they are or recognize their music. I’m thinking they’re probably rookies or near to it.

My shiny new suitcase, next to all the things that will go on it. Plus all the things that will go in it!

All the Xiumin paraphernalia is for LP, and I also got her Song Joong Ki socks since she recapped DotS.

The EXO lotion was BOGO so I got the Chen for me since I love avocado and they gave me a stand of his, too. So if there are any Chen fans, let me know if you want your own little cardboard cutout to fangirl over! ^_^

All the face masks were “service” and I’m especially excited about the Pikachu ones, like, I better look like a Pokemon when I’m wearing it. I also have a zillion of the tiny little lotions because they were so cute and the lady was like “1+1!!! 1+1!!!!” which tbh was the only reason I could justify spending that much. Pity she didn’t offer half-price for just one set like that Nature Republic lady did.

Then there are all the non-cosmetics. On the bottom left is what I found in my “WELCOME TO KOREA!!!” gift bag. I love that the Global Etiquette book is just in Hangul. But the pen is cute and I’ll be using the wet wipes for sure.

The necklace was what I picked up at the Ssamzie market in Insadong. She’s on the top level and explained her process of crafting the necklaces (firing pieces of enamel). It reminded me of the sea and I’m such a sucker for handmade jewelry.

The shoes behind are also handmade out of paper. I found them in a tiny shop in Hanchon (in Busan) and the proprietor was so happy to show me around and explain everything. There were many colors to choose from, but I like these because they’re made from paper with a Hangul print. Also they’re strung together so I can hang them up if I want!

I browsed a couple of Artboxes but while I was delighted with many adorable things, I managed to talk myself out of actually buying them. But I couldn’t resist this cute travel journal or the “Wizard of Oz” annual diary/calendar. The tote was on sale and I just had to buy it, at least to remember how much I’ve enjoyed my “milk teas.” ^_^

The box behind is NOT going in the suitcase. That’s my handmade set of Silla-style pottery and will instead be lovingly carried on the plane with me.

Whew. So that’s all my souvenirs! Most of which were bought in the last 24 hours. :p

Not pictured: snacks/candy to give to coworkers. Hopefully there will be something in the duty free shops at the airport because that’s where I usually get my “for a group of people I barely know” treats.

My last night in Seoul and I have no idea what I should have for dinner! Analysis paralysis. What should I dooooooo? Where should I goooooo?

I do know I want a quick shower before I go back out because Korea is humid and this arid girl is not used to that. (I will never visit in summer. Just sayin’.)

Had a nice wander this morning, though, and used the subway for the first time because Hongdae was too far to walk (and I love walking in cities). Also stopped at DDP and then the market, where I haggled a guy down to 40,000 for a 20" suitcase (the “official” price tag said 70,000 and then he first quoted me 55,000). I don’t know if it’s a good deal but it was the best I could find and I just wanted to finally get a suitcase so I could get everything packed in order to enjoy my last morning stress free.

The current plan is to grab a tea and enjoy a stroll along Cheonggyecheon stream until about noon, when I’ll need to head to the airport).

Bur for now I need to figure out dinner! I want to have a proper meal for my last night but I can’t decide because there are still so many things I want to eat. *cries*

I’ve had Unni’s Slam Dunk playing on TV but I wasn’t really paying attention to it at all but now they’ve kidnapped cutie-pie Minhyuk (and I can’t blame them) so now I’m paying attention and scrambling to figure out what’s going on.

So, random story time (and so sorry y’all because I’ve been so chatty today but that’s what happens when I have a lazy, solo “no plans” day – I’m online a lot more):

I’ve been happily out-of-touch with most things US political while on holiday, although a few things have crossed my dash when I’ve been scrolling and I’ve noted a little bit on the news as I flip through channels. But honestly the presidential race has not been at the forefront of my mind except for a brief conversation from someone who lives in SF and vows to move to Canada if the cheeto-in-a-wig wins.

Anyway, a couple of nights ago, I had a very vivid dream of being at a political rally for Hilary, but it was a friendly, casual affair. Think large church pot-luck. Bouncy castles for the kids and big marquee tents selling delicious, homemade food and just a happy, relaxed atmosphere in general.

But as I was waiting in line to get my meal (and where I was thrilled that Hilary’s camp was handing out recipe cards for the food made and served by grandmothers of various ethnic backgrounds – y’know that one dish that makes you think of home? – as a way to support and encourage the elder woman’s importance in the household), the douchebro behind me was whining that this huge plate of lasagna (including salad and garlic bread and dessert!)was going to cost $7 which was just way too expensive.

And I was like, “Are you kidding me? That’s a bargain! Especially for what you get plus the extra ingredient of TLC from the Nana who made it!”

But the douchebro was all “Well Trump was selling hotdogs for 50 cents at his rally and I’m going to vote for him because it was cheaper.”

And I was just like… “Really????? You’re going to vote for someone who probably bought the cheapest hotdog possible, made with who knows what, just because it cost less than a heaping plate of delicious, authentic, carefully and lovingly prepared meal?”

The douchebro was just like, “Yeah, it just makes economic sense.” Implying that I’m the idiot for getting excited about the food I was about to enjoy and spend way too much money on.

I was speechless for a moment, then tried to point out the hypocrisy of him standing in line at a Hilary rally to get food that he’s already decided won’t be worth it, but then he says that even though it’s more than what he paid at Trump’s rally, he knows it will taste good and be a nice, filling meal.

And I was just like… ??????

Thankfully I woke up around then because I was sure this was going to escalate into an argument that would raise my blood pressure, even while sleeping. But I thought it was interesting how my unconscious brain has parsed the election and what the various supporters are like and what they believe in.
