Also re: Signal – I’m really hoping they’ll find a way to save Jae Han so he’ll be alive in 2015 (and our 2015, y’know, the one where Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young are married with a baby and not just rumored to be dating), but knowing how the unspoken Laws of the Universe work on this show, it’ll mean killing off Hae Young because you can’t save a life without sacrificing another, apparently.

Oh my lord, why did I not realize this before. I know it wasn’t true about Jisung and wife dating that time. Or even the Misaeng cast love triangle. I just thought Hae young in Episode 1 was making it all up to get a money/job or to create rumours. I didn’t take him seriously that time. Now, I see it. They are on a different Universe to begin with.

I thought we are in the same Universe as they are all along. And that they are changing things as they solve cases. My gosh, that’s why I haven’t been enjoying this drama. Reading this post and watching Episode 7 changed that. I guess tumblr is the new walkie talkie. Are you Jae Han?

I’m not 100% sure that’s exactly what the show is going for – it’s pretty much my take on it. However, because they made it clear in this show as a fact that Lee Bo Young was single (that’s why he got in trouble – she reported a man going through her garbage, which, as a single woman, seems extra scary), so obviously it’s a different world than ours. Considering what a major celebrity couple they are in the actual real world, it’s a convenient way of quickly letting the audience know that the show’s “present day” is not the same as our “present day.”

Knowing that this show is all about trying to change the past to effect the future, I’ve been assuming we’ll get a little cute throwback in the final episode of a news report of their wedding/baby/etc. just to show that yeah, the future has changed since ep 1, and it is our future.

Jeong Cha Sik – “I Will Forget You” (Signal OST)

LOVE THIS DRAMA!

Yayyyy! *high-five*

So then it’s you and me and maybe like one other person and then slew of people in Korea.

hi, i just tried to watch the first ep of local hero/neighborhood hero and the first scenes are just way too over the top soap opera.. does the rest of the drama feel like that? i cant believe soo hyuk would do a drama like that?

You mean all the stuff in Macau? That’s just the setting, really. You need that backstory to understand why Shi Yoon is so determined to figure out who outed his crew and mission.

The most fun is watching these old/retired spies be normal people (and watch the bumbling but adorable Chan Gyu [Soo Hyuk] attempt to spy on professional spies, like, good luck with that, dude). The charm for me is the characters and how they’re all underdogs banding together to save the neighborhood from being ruined by corporate developers. There’s more to it than that, but that’s the bit that most interests me – the spy stuff (as set up in Macau) isn’t, but we need that brooding mission underpinning the other stuff.

I’m pretty sure I’m not alone, though, in saying that Soo Hyuk is definitely stealing the lime-light. His character is just so adorkable you can’t help but root for him.

babyjollof:

i don’t think the doc is the actual second lead, i think we’re getting another one (i hope) bc i’ll enjoy that one more.

I think he doesn’t feel like a “real” second lead because he displays traits that I’d associate with the standard asshat leading man, whereas Soo Hyuk displays more of those second lead traits. Hae Joon was already a second lead to Soo Hyuk’s baby mama, so maybe he’s decided this is his drama and he’s the lead. Which is why I think Mi Mo was so enamored by him at first – he fit that ideal checklist in her head that was likely influenced by movies and dramas (despite the practical advice she gives her clients, she’s clearly a romantic at heart).

I don’t think it was any accident that so many of these episodes have begun with a parody of movies/dramas/fairy tales/etc. Mi Mo’s vision of love is unrealistic but it works on paper, as a script. She’s just trying to cram in the perfect guy into her script of “true love” (don’t forget, the show literally started out as a “happily ever after” fairy tale until reality set in). My view of the show is that she’s been her realizing that this ideal image of “true love” (Romeo and Juliet!) is just that, an image, and reality is a bit messier and maybe falling in love with a single dad who has a thing for animal onsies isn’t the worst thing ever. Just sayin’.

(I mean he cooks and cleans and especially cleans up her vomit like if that’s not a sign of “true love” I don’t know what is.)

This is my evening to watch dramas and I’m also stalking the Signal tag but there’s nothing from the new ep and I’m just… *cries*

Come Back Ahjussi Teasers:

This makes the show look as wild and confusing as the synopsis promises (comedy? melo? melo-com?), but at least teaser #3 guarantees me the most important thing I’m looking for in this drama: a nekkid Rain.

“I only drink coffee from a can.”

Aka “don’t let those bastards make you serve them coffee just because you’re the hoobae only woman. Be the detective you came here to be.”
